National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in Canada

Monday, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation in 2024. This day remembers the numerous Indigenous children, survivors, families and loved ones who were removed from their Indigenous communities and placed in residential schools. As an Indigenous fingerprinting company, we stand in line with the Indigenous community. We wear orange to commemorate the generational impacts, traumas, and tragedies that stemmed from colonialization.

UBC’s article outlines the origins of the Sixties Scoop that took place in the late 50s and 80s. The online article highlights the devastating impacts and long-term consequences of assimilation and colonialization for thousands on Indigenous children and communities, including loss of cultural identity and connection to their heritage. It also underlines the ongoing efforts for reconciliation and justice, including legal battles and public awareness campaigns to address the wrongdoings during this period in Canadian history. Truth and Reconciliation is an ongoing process. The provincial government of British Columbia has been taking steps and measures to include Indigenous languages in government records, systems and services. The Indigenous community has also come a great way to achieving success in businesses and corporations, as demonstrated by the Indigenous Partnership Success Showcase (IPSS) Conference in June 2024.
