To become a teacher in Ontario, you must be certified by the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) to teach in Ontario’s publicly funded schools. Whether you have been a teacher at another province or country, certification is required to teach in Ontario.

Do you need Criminal Record Check Report for your application with Ontario College to become a teacher in Ontario?

Applicants must provide an original signed Canadian criminal record check report from RCMP’s Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC). The criminal record check report cannot be older than six months and must contain all current and former names.

Vulnerable sector check is to see if a person has a record suspension (pardon) for sexual offences. This type of search is often required when working with vulnerable population such as children and elders. However, for application with Ontario College of Teachers, vulnerable sector check is not required to certify applicants.

What to bring to your fingerprinting appointment?

1. Two pieces of government issued English IDs (one must include a photo)

2. College application number if applicable

What to expect at our office?

1. We will confirm your identity with your IDs

2. Fingerprints will be scanned and submitted to the RCMP

3. With the application number, the RCMP will issue your RCMP certificate directly to the College

4. Without the application number, our staff will arrange with RCMP to issue your certificate to your preferred mailing address

Fingerprinting service for other country’s criminal record check reports?

Fingerprints will be taken digitally, by scanning with our certified program, or taken by ink. Fingerprint forms will be available at the end of the appointment. Our company RCMP certification will be provided for all fingerprint forms.
