Most foreign embassies in Canada will only authenticate and legalize RCMP certified fingerprint-based criminal record checks. Compared to a name-based only criminal record check, the use of fingerprints in RCMP certified criminal record check’s process will ensure a more accurate result. In addition, as RCMP is a federal institution, the RCMP criminal record check will be a federal document. RCMP criminal record also allows applicants to include a passport-style ID photo on their certificate. This is also required by many embassies such as those of Spain and Panama.

Both fingerprint and name-based background checks can be authenticated by the Chinese Embassy.  China, but whether they can be submitted as eligible documents in China for your visa/immigration application depends on different cities and provinces. To confirm if you can submit a name-based criminal record, please consult with your local police and immigration department.
