When applying for a Canadian criminal record check from outside of Canada, it is important to make sure the fingerprints are taken in the correct format to avoid any unnecessary delays to the process.

For a RCMP fingerprint based certified criminal record check, the fingerprints should be taken on the RCMP C216C fingerprint form. The format of the fingerprints should follow these guidelines:

  • Fingerprints must be taken in black ink only.
  • All fingerprint boxes on the form should be completed with the corresponding fingers’ impressions.
  • For the top two roles, impressions should be taken by rolling the fingers from one side to the other.
  • For the last role, flat impressions of the four fingers taken simultaneously, and then the two thumbs should all be included.

By following the instructions above, the completed fingerprint form should be in the correct format that can be submitted to RCMP.

However please note that accredited fingerprinting agencies like us cannot determine the quality of your fingerprints. The final decision on this matter is up to the RCMP. More specifically the RCMP officer processing the criminal record check.

After you have your fingerprints taken, please email us a scan so we can verify the format. Only after you receive a confirmation from us should you send us the hardcopy of your fingerprints.
