BC Vital Statistics announced that residential school survivor or their family member, or an individual impacted by the Sixties Scoop, may be eligible to receive a legal change of name through the Vital Statistics Agency, including a waiver of legislated fees. In addition, new birth certificate and/or marriage can also be issued free of charge after the name change is finalized.

As the first indigenous owned RCMP accredited fingerprinting company, The Fingerprint Room Inc. will be offering fingerprinting and RCMP background check services free of charge for those looking to reclaim their indigenous names. We are looking forward to serve the indigenous community.

Eligible applicants will need to book an appointment with us, and present their valid status card, as well as another piece of government issued ID to utilize our service. We will have RCMP forward the result directly to BC Vital Statistics, and provide you a receipt/acknowledgement for your application.

Appointments can be made via phone or online. Our phone number is: 1-844-447-2485 (North America Toll Free) and 604-447-2485 (Office). The link to our online booking page is: Richmond, BC
