If you have a permanent residency card and have lived in Canada for 3 years or more, you may be eligible to become a Canadian Citizen. To become a Canadian citizen, you may be asked by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to obtain a police certificate. A police certificate requires fingerprints to help determine if you have a criminal record. Immigration officers identify whether you will be a security risk to Canada based on the record check. A police certificate is required for anyone ages 18 and up trying to apply for Canadian Citizenship.

To obtain a police certificate, you will need to submit digitized fingerprints and a photograph to our agency. Fingerprints can be done in black ink or digitally. The RCMP will only process digital fingerprints as it reduces processing times significantly. For applicants who are outside of Canada and can only obtain ink fingerprints, our agency can digitize ink fingerprints and submit them electronically to the RCMP’s Canadian Criminal Real Time Identification Services (CCRTIS) server. Due to a change in procedures, a photograph may be needed to obtain a police certificate.

If you are applying for a Canadian citizenship or have been requested by the IRCC to obtain a police certificate, The Fingerprint Room’s friendly and knowledgeable staff can walk you through the process on how to obtain and submit your fingerprints.
