How to Take your Fingerprints Correctly

For applicants outside of Canada that require a RCMP Certified Criminal Record Check based on fingerprints, they would need to have their fingerprints taken on a RCMP C216 Fingerprint Form.

Fingerprints can be taken at your local police station or a private fingerprint company. If none are available, fingerprints taken in front of a notary is acceptable as well. Please make sure to have the notary issue a notary letter to certify the validity of your fingerprints.

Below are the requirements of how the fingerprints should be taken correctly on the RCMP C216C Fingerprint Card:

  • All fingerprints must be taken with black ink, not with other colored ink;
  • For the first top two rows, the fingerprints are rolled individually on to the fingerprint card (i.e. thumb, index finger, etc),
  • For the bottom section, press four left hand fingers onto the space provided followed by the left thumb. On the right side, press your right thumb flat onto the space provided followed by the four fingers of your right hand.
  • Signed and stampes by the official/agency that took your fingerprints
  • Do not use excess force when taking your fingerprints as the results will be smudged which may cause the RCMP to reject the fingerprint submission. Use gentle and even force when having your fingerprints taken.

* We require clients to have their fingerprints taken on the RCMP C216C fingerprint form. However, there are countries, like Australia and United States, that have their own fingerprint card, we will accept them as long as the above requirements are met.
