Your employer asking for fingerprints to be taken for RCMP criminal record check?

It is not uncommon for employers to clear candidates prior to employment. Some private agencies may ask employees to be fingerprinted for a background check. Fingerprint based background checks are a level 2 criminal background check that are required for provincial licensing applications, federal employment, and those working for federal contractors.

What to bring to your fingerprinting appointment?

1. Two pieces of government issued English IDs (one must include a photo)

2. Employing Company’s full legal name

What to expect at our office?

1. We will confirm your identity with your IDs

2. Fingerprints will be scanned and submitted to the RCMP

3. RCMP will complete the criminal record check and issue the certificate

a. Private employment: Our staff can arrange with RCMP to issue your certificate to your preferred mailing address
b. Provincial employment: Certificate must be shipped to its designated mailing addresses
c. Federal employment: Certificate must be shipped to its designated mailing addresses and DCN number will be available at the end of appointment

Document Control Number (DCN) is a 20-digit number generated by a fingerprint service provider, as proof that the mandatory electronic fingerprints were completed for federally contracted employees.
